OUR ROOTS
Making People and Companies SmarterThe Wonderful Life Project is led by Lee Elliott who worked for decades as a Human Resources executive, business and psychology professor, and a management consultant. His career focus for the last 20+ years has been on creating business environments that generate highly attractive results such as improved recruitment and retention through the use of the tools of practical wisdom. In addition, he works to improve lives of individuals at work and at home using the same tools.
The Wonderful Life Project
The Wonderful Life Project specializes in teaching and coaching businesses and individuals on how to most effectively manage many of the most complex and difficult people issues that they encounter. The programs yield dramatically improved lives for individuals and highly desirable results for business.
But let us back up a little. In 2000, Lee Elliott experienced a tremendous problem: As Vice President of Human Resources at a medium-sized hospital, he could not hire enough employees fo fully staff the hospital. Lee knew the hospital had to come up with a solution.
After many months devoted to this mission, he led the effort to create the training program which he now calls the Wonderful Life Project. The focus of the training was based in learning the tools of practical wisdom.
Wisdom refers to the ability to make reasoned decisions and provide feedback based on the experience and knowledge that you have. And it’s not merely the teachings of the ancients: wisdom is more about how to have a good life.

From the beginning, the material developed for the Wonderful Life Project has been based on peer-reviewed research studies from the fields of general psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, positive psychology, positive organizational scholarship, sociology, and social psychology, to name a few.
We recognize that we are in the early stages of a new and quite powerful evolution of our understanding of management. We’ve seen a major change in the application of psychology to management. It has profound benefits for humanity and for business.
A major change in how we manage is desperately needed – our current approach of command-and-control leadership is doing great harm. We need an approach to management that more fully addresses the complexities of people at work. It became apparent to us that what is needed is an understanding of practical wisdom – the way to a better life.
Through his research, Lee has identified many extraordinary benefits for managers who use wisdom in their day-to-day practices. Although somewhat surprising, they also identified significant benefits for individuals’ overall health and well-being. As each of us learns more about the business of work, our life outside of the workplace improves.
The obvious conclusion is that research indicates dramatic and powerful benefits from understanding and learning the skills included in the Wonderful Life Project. Results shown at several organizations that participated the Wonderful Life Project certainly show the training produces substantial benefits – the participants benefit, the family benefits, the businesses benefit, and the communities benefit.
